What should I know when installing Sanction on Windows Vista™?

To install and run Sanction on Windows Vista there are configuration steps that must be completed before the program is installed. Please follow the steps below to configure Windows Vista and install Sanction correctly.

  1. Log on to the Windows Vista computer as a user that has administrative access.
    1. Only a user with Administrative access can install software on a Windows Vista computer. If you do not have Administrative access you will not be able to install Sanction correctly.
  2. Create a folder for your Sanction cases.
    1. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the C:\ drive.
    2. On the C:\ drive create a new folder and name it "Sanction cases."
  3. Launch the installation of Sanction.
    1. If you downloaded Sanction 2.8 or earlier right click the installation file and select Run as Administrator. Skip to the next step.
    2. If you downloaded the Sanction 2.9 Install, double click the file to launch the installation. Skip to the next step.
    3. If you are installing from a disc open Windows Explorer.
      1. Navigate to the disc drive (if the drive will not open right click it and select Explore).
      2. Find the file named Setup.exe.
      3. Right-click Setup.exe and select "Run as Administrator."
  4. Set the Case Data Path.
    1. During the Sanction installation you will be prompted for the Case Data Path. When prompted click the Browse button.
    2. Navigate to the C:\ drive and select the "Sanction cases" folder that you created in step 3.
    3. Continue with the installation.
Note: If you are installing Sanction 2.9 you may notice that the installation appears to stall after a certain amount of time. This is because it is attempting to launch a separate installation package for the Online Synchronization software. By default the separate installation window pops up behind the Sanction installation window and cannot be seen unless you go to the Windows Task bar and click on the button named Sanction Online Synchronization Setup.

After following these steps you should be able to run Sanction on your Windows Vista computer correctly. If you encounter any issues please see the Using Sanction on Windows Vista section.
